What is Betelnut?
Betelnut is the world's most popular stimulant & is used more widely than coffee. It's scientific name is Areca Catechu. Betelnut is actually an astrigent seed from the betel palm tree. It contains the alkaloids Aerocoline which is a mild nervous system stimulant that increases synaptical response and produces a feeling of 'well-being'. In other words, it gets you high and makes you think faster/smarter (more alert). It also contains gallic acid and tannins which have antihelmintic properties meaning it fights parasitic worms and aids in digestion. ![]() |
Pan Parag - World's Most Popular Stimulant!
How to Use it: Betelnut must be combined with burnt lime to release the alkaloids. Partly the success of Pan Masala (aside from its aromatic flavours) is that its is prepackaged for ready consumption with all the necessary ingredients to release the alkaloids. Pan Masala has been deemed 'Instant Pan' (akin to 'instant coffee'). The tins are 100g, the smaller packages are packed with dipping tobacco**. It basically looks like little pebbles in a fine brown powder which is the burnt lime and spices.1. Place a very small amount -- slightly less than a teaspoon (less than ¼ gram) of the powdery nuggets in your mouth, either under your tongue or in your cheek. You will immediately notice breathing becomes easier and the air feels cool and minty due to the menthol. 2. Suckle on the nuggets until they are soft enough to chew, then chew them. The nut is too hard to chew without allowing them to soften. The astringent properties of the areca nut will make you salivate. This also has anti-cavity benefits by flushing away food particles deep in your gums. 3. Chew and swallow. It's not necessary to spit unless you combine with tobacco. 4. Enjoy a very mild feeling of well-being and hieghtened alertness. Also, you will notice your breath is very minty fresh. For most people, it's an aquired taste.**"Betelnut combined with tobacco produces a synergetic effect." - The Encyclopedia Americana ![]() |
